Listen to JD McPherson’s Dark and Twangy “Don’t Travel Through The Night Alone” From Upcoming LP
By Bill Pearis
JD McPherson will release new album Nite Owls in September, and it’s a record that was as influenced by Depeche Mode as Duane Eddy. That’s apparent on new single “Don’t Travel Through the Night Alone,” which has the dark-and-twangy vibe of being the only car on a desert highway at 2 AM when you wonder “is the full moon enough to light my way” and consider switching off your headlights just to find out.
“The lyrics came quickly, but a long time after the musical ideas,” JD tells us. “I think now the song is just a story about getting unstuck.” The song makes its premiere in this post and you can listen below.
JD is currently on tour with Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, and then in the fall he’ll be out on his own headlining tour which includes a NYC show at Bowery Ballroom on October 4 with Kate Clover. All dates are listed below.
Nite Owls is out September 27 via New West (pre-order).
