Aterciopelados Receive Two Latin Grammy Award Nominations for Their New Album ‘Claroscura’
Best Alternative Album
Best Alternative Song
Los Angeles, September 20, 2018 – In the city of Los Angeles, the Colombian group Aterciopelados received the news of their double Latin Grammy nomination for their new album “Claroscura” in the categories of Best Alternative Music Album and Best Alternative Song for the song “Duo” composed by Andrea Echeverry. With these nominations, the group from Bogota has a total of 9 Latin Grammy nominations and 5 Grammy nominations, of which they have received 3 Latin Grammy awards.
“Claroscura” is Aterciopelados’ first album in almost 10 years and contains 12 unreleased songs, 5 of them produced by the award-winning Argentinian musician ‘Cachorro’ Lopez at Audiovisión Bogotá and Mondo Mix Bs Aires and the remaining 7 songs were produced by Hector Buitrago (ConEctor) at Groove Estudios Bogota, between August 2017 and February 2018; with the participation of two great voices: Anita Tijoux from Chile in ‘Play’ and the vallenato troubadour Jorge Celedón on ‘Ay Ombe’ (Vamo’ a relajar el Pony’) (“Lets relax the Pony.”)
The album is a delicious sancocho (stew) where contemporary sounds are mixed with down-beat cumbia, Andean airs, electro punk, Bogotá rock, and futuristic sounds. The design is a delicate and elegant magical-surrealist and shamanic art made by the Bogota collective “Comes Cake.”
Aterciopelados is currently in California and will be performing at the Üateke Rock Fest in the Belasco Theater, and Saturday in the same Festival but in the city of San Diego.
The Latin Grammy Awards ceremony will be held in Las Vegas this upcoming November 15.
